Behind the care: Recruiters powering our Heart and Vascular teams

During Heart Month, we celebrate the lifesaving impact of WellSpan’s Heart and Vascular teams—and the recruiters who help make that care possible. From cardiac nurses and technologists to advanced practice providers and physicians, our professionals deliver world class, compassionate care through collaboration and innovation. Behind the scenes, dedicated recruiters serve as strategic partners, connecting passionate talent with meaningful careers and helping ensure the continued excellence and growth of heart and vascular care at WellSpan.

Below, we’re spotlighting several of our recruiting colleagues who support Heart and Vascular services across the system. Their expertise, partnerships, and passion play a vital role in building the teams that care for our communities every day.

At WellSpan, the Heart and Vascular space continues to grow and innovate, creating exciting opportunities for nurses to advance their careers while delivering high quality, evidence based cardiovascular care.

Ruth Ann Frey

Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant |Supporting Acute Cardiac and Critical Care Nursing at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital

Ruth Ann recruits’ nurses for several high-acuity inpatient units including the Cardiac Cath Lab, Critical Care Unit (CCU), Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) and Telemetry.

These teams deliver complex cardiovascular and medical care ranging from catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, ablations and device implants in the Cath Lab to critically ill CCU patients requiring mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support and advanced therapies. IMCU and Telemetry support post-interventional cardiac patients, arrhythmia management, heart failure and respiratory conditions in fast-paced, team-based environments.

She enjoys recruiting for acute care because of the skill, teamwork and impact involved. “Helping nurses deliver outstanding care during critical moments is especially meaningful,” she shared.

Heart & vascular services continue to grow across WellSpan, creating new opportunities for nurses and clinical staff. From expanding vascular services in Chambersburg to system-wide American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines recognition, Ruth Ann sees innovation and quality excellence fueling career growth.

For those interested in getting started, she recommends hospital support roles like nursing attendants, unit secretary or nurse extern. Her advice to new graduates: build a strong foundation, lean into mentorship, ask questions and allow yourself time to grow in this highly technical specialty.

The team members working in Heart and Vascular care are incredibly passionate about what they do. That passion drives strong partnerships between recruiters and hiring leaders so we can bring in highly qualified team members who truly shine in our departments.

Brandon Reaser

Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant | Recruiting Cardiology Professionals at WellSpan Good Samaritan and WellSpan Ephrata Community hospitals

Brandon supports recruitment for Cardiac Cath and EP Labs, non-invasive cardiology services and other cardiology departments at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital and WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Roles include Cath Lab Technologists, EP Technologists, Cardiac Technicians, Echo Technologists, Arrhythmia Device Technologists and Exercise Physiologists.

At WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, Cath and EP Lab services continue to expand with new part-time roles and experienced external talent joining the teams.

For those entering cardiology, Brandon recommends starting as a cardiac technician to gain hands-on exposure across departments. His advice: commit to continuous learning, explore subspecialties, build relationships and seek mentorship from cardiologists and experienced Cath and EP staff.

With continued expansion in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and vascular services, along with investments in cath lab technology, there are more opportunities than ever to grow in the Heart and Vascular space.

Kelly Bush

Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant |Connecting Talent with Cardiology Services Across Multiple Locations

Kelly recruits for Cardiology Services and cardiac cath labs across Gettysburg, Waynesboro, Chambersburg and Evangelical Hospital.

She finds purpose in helping professionals’ step into roles that directly impact patient lives. “Heart and vascular care is critical, and building teams that deliver life-saving care gives me great pride,” she shared.

Kelly has seen significant growth across the system including expanded interventional cardiology and electrophysiology in Gettysburg, fellowship-trained vascular surgeons and new vascular offices in Chambersburg, outpatient interventional radiology services and ongoing investments in Cath Lab and structural heart technology.

She encourages those entering the field to begin in entry-level roles like patient care technician or cardiovascular technologist assistant, pursue certifications and seek shadowing opportunities. Her advice: stay curious, seek mentorship, ask questions and embrace growth.

Cath Lab and EP recruiting is challenging in the best ways—it’s strategic, relationship driven, and closely tied to outcomes. That’s what makes it especially rewarding.

Shannon Torrez

Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant |Specialized Cath Lab and EP Recruiting at WellSpan York Hospital

Shannon recruits for the cardiac cath lab and electrophysiology services at WellSpan York Hospital, one of the system’s most specialized recruiting areas.

WYH has expanded its services with new procedural rooms, prep and recovery spaces and hybrid lab capabilities. A February 2025 expansion added three labs and support areas with room for future growth.

Shannon encourages candidates to gain relevant experience in cardiac, EP, Cath Lab or radiology roles and pursue certifications like RCIS or EP Tech. Her advice: learn the equipment, stay current on new technologies, commit to continuous learning and set career goals early.

Because the heart affects every aspect of life, cardiologists bring an incredible depth of knowledge and compassion to their work—and being part of building those teams is deeply meaningful to me.

Elyse Chadderdon

Physician Recruiter| Non-Invasive Cardiology Physicians Across WellSpan

Elyse recruits non-invasive cardiology physicians for all locations across the WellSpan footprint, supporting teams that provide comprehensive cardiovascular care throughout the region.

Heart and Vascular remains one of the fastest-growing areas in healthcare. With an aging population and increasing rates of heart disease, the demand for providers continues to rise. At the same time, physician shortages driven by retiring providers and fewer fellows entering the field make recruitment more critical than ever. Elyse highlights that WellSpan continuously evaluates salary, benefits, and lifestyle offerings to remain competitive while supporting provider well-being. Clinically, she notes ongoing advancements in treatments, medications, and procedures that continue to transform cardiovascular care.

For those interested in pursuing a career in Heart and Vascular — particularly as a physician — Elyse strongly recommends shadowing a provider. “Seeing the day-to-day work is invaluable,” she shared, calling it the best way to understand the commitment and rewards of the specialty, which requires more than a decade of education and training after high school.

Her advice to new fellows entering their first practice: don’t be intimidated. “Every physician who trained you had a first day after fellowship,” she said. Elyse also encourages candidates to ask about mentorship, onboarding, and training during interviews to ensure long-term success and support.
